Excavation is a crucial stage in the paving process. The strength of the infrastructure under the pavement is directly related to the lifespan of the work. Like the foundation of a house, it’s the infrastructure that keeps the structure from shifting over time. That’s why, in most cases, we have to dig down, remove the old material (asphalt, concrete, earth and non-pure stone) and replace it with good-quality, well-compacted granular material (rock). We use a geotextile membrane between the subgrade and the new granular materials to separate the soils and prevent contamination of the new infrastructure with freeze-thaw cycles.
